Williams, Ash Grunwald, Ashleigh Mannix, Hollow Coves, Budjerah, The Lonesomes, Darren Middleton, Paige Barnard, Will Hearn, Eimhin and Emily Grace Taylor.

Having spent the better part of a decade living and working in Melbourne’s top studios The Aviary, Woodstock, Sound Park and Sing Sing he is now based in South East Queensland and runs a boutique recording studio in the Gold Coast Hinterland. He has been an active and supporting member of MPEG since its inception and is a key contributor to the Guild’s Neighbouring Rights committee. He is also a Gold Coast music award winner and three-time finalist and is mentoring up and coming engineer/producers through the city’s Professional Placements program.

Election Statement:

With over 12 years’ experience working as a full-time producer/engineer both in Melbourne and now in a regional city, I believe I represent the interests and lived experience of many of our members who are out there working hard to make a living in the current music / economic climate.

My industry experience in business, networking, professional development, grant acquisition and community engagement will help benefit the Guild and particularly those members who are established but looking for opportunities to grow and develop their production skills as well as their business acumen.

A further key interest of mine, and one that I have already been helping the Guild with in the past 18 months, is in Neighbouring Rights (NR). As a board member I would continue to passionately advocate for the copyright law and the culture of our industry at large to evolve and include the distribution of NR as standard to all producers, artists and session players with the ultimate goal being a fairer and more equitable exploitation of master recordings - just as it is in much of the rest of the world.

As part of the current NR Committee, alongside Anna, Kurt, Millie, Eric, Charles Fisher and Mark Optiz, I took the lead in compiling a preliminary working position on our hopes for the future of NR and have attended multiple meetings with heads of major orgs to discuss our plight. If elected to the board I would continue to drive this work and interface more directly with Australian NR expert Susan Cotchin’s advocacy group Genuine Article to help push through this long overdue reform which would unlock a well-deserved new income stream for all our members.

Election Statement:
I believe MPEG has a key role to play in strengthening crediting standards, advocating for fair work conditions, and addressing mental health across our industry. These are issues that directly affect engineers and too often go overlooked, but they are central to building a sustainable and respectful profession.

Looking ahead, I want to see MPEG establish itself as a true peak body for engineers and producers, one that not only celebrates our craft but also represents us in shaping policy, building industry standards, and protecting our members in areas such as AI, copyright, and fair contracts. My ongoing legal studies give me additional perspective on these challenges and how we can address them collectively.

If elected, I will bring a combination of industry expertise, legal training, and business experience to the board. I am also committed to encouraging greater diversity and inclusion in engineering, ensuring MPEG is not only the home of its members but the voice of our industry.

Bio:

As a celebrated recording engineer, mixer and producer in Australia, my primary focus has moved to education and research as a senior lecturer and music program coordinator at the University of the Sunshine Coast. My research foci include practice-based music production approaches, diversity and equity in the recording studio, theoretical uses of space, and the music industry, where I have published books, book chapters and journal articles. Being an active music producer since 1992, I have an intimate knowledge of music industry trends, recording sector changes and directions, and possible future directions for the industry.

In my capacity as the music program coordinator, I manage the strategic goals and annual budget for the music program at UniSC. I hold multiple university and School of Business and Creative Industry board positions, such as the Non-Traditional Research Outputs committee (NTROs focus on practice-based research artefacts), and the Learning and Teaching committee.

Currently, I have Higher Degree Research students researching topics such as Musical Approaches to the Cultural Aspects of Climate Change and using Generative-AI Tools During Songwriting Reshape Musical Habitus. These projects enable me to stay informed on the latest research in these topic areas.

Election Statement:

I am a supporter of MPEG and the work achieved as a new Peak Body in Australia. I led the inaugural MPEG survey report (2023), guiding the board on the current position of music producers in Australia and the expectations for MPEG as it formalized its operations. I look forward to the opportunity to make further impacts in the industry that I love and have been a part of my entire working life. I would like to use the experience and expertise I have gained to guide and advocate for meaningful and necessary change in the recording sector and advocate for music producers and engineers as a vital cog in the Australian and global music industry.

Election Statement:

It has been an honour to serve on the MPEG Board, contributing to initiatives that strengthen our community of producers and engineers alongside such an experienced team of fellow Board members. In my time as a Board member and Treasurer, I have focused on budgeting, tax reporting, BAS submissions and financial and variance analysis.

With a background as an artist, producer, music business owner and corporate accountant, I feel I can bring a unique view on MPEG which can benefit our producer and engineer community by not only analysing the impact of decisions on our members, but also on the overall sustainability and longevity of MPEG to serve members into the future. I am passionate about building robust systems and processes so that we can have maximum impact on our work by improving efficiencies, for example through website automations. This will allow the time we spend on MPEG to be focused on high value tasks such as community engagement and sustainability.

I am also continuously investing in my skills in areas such as business operations, website development, marketing, social media strategy and more for my own business and I feel I have been able to bring this knowledge into MPEG over the last three years. I hope to be able to continue to do this into the future if elected.
Since its inception, MPEG has always had such a strong focus on community, knowledge sharing and inclusiveness. I wish to be able to even further contribute to this atmosphere by encouraging and empowering all minorities to feel connected to our wider music industry through MPEG.

Election Statement:

I’m honoured to have served as a founding board member of MPEG over the past 3 years, Through finding our feet during the dynamics of the covid era, when we were an overlooked and at times invisible sector, through to the current era where we face continual and significant change through the evolution of technology and our role within the creation of music, I welcome the opportunity to both continue and expand upon the work we have done so far.

Alongside my duties as a board member, I have been responsible for programming the MPEG Forum and remain firmly of the mind that open dialogue and feedback between or members and the wider community plays a vital role in forging both opportunity and gaining insight into developing best practices and knowledge sharing for all of us moving forward.

On behalf of MPEG, I bring many threads of experience to bear within this peak body, from my career as an artist over 37 years, a manager, recording studio owner and engineer / producer, alongside my work as a mental health advocate as a board member of Support Act, I weave those insights and experiences to elevate MPEG and it’s membership as a significant voice within the Australian music community, Highlighting the impact and importance of Producers, Engineers and Recording Professionals to the eco system of the music industry as artists in our own right.

This group of people are fantastic and I thank you all for the opportunity to continue to do the work.

Award-winning producer Anna Laverty has built an exceptional and ever-growing show reel of credits, solidifying her reputation as one of Australia’s finest creative talents. With an impressive catalogue of releases across multiple genres, Anna is renowned for her ability to pull innovative tones, write a catchy hook and help a project realise its sonic potential.

Her impressive body of work and reputation saw her picked out to feature on the successful 2019 ABC television series ‘The Recording Studio’ as a featured engineer. The program brought everyday Australians into the studio to write and record a song. The inspired repertoire and calibre of production saw the show win the 2019 ARIA Award for Best Original Production.

Ever busy, Anna has in recent time helped produce works by Missy Higgins, Folk Bitch Trio, Jebediah and Angie McMahon, and as yet unreleased albums for Angie Hart, Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever and Sweetie.

In 2022 Anna established MPEG, the Music Producer and Engineers’ Guild of Australia and is the current Chair. She generously shares her experience and expertise with budding songwriters and producers in Australia as an APRA AMCOS ambassador and has spoken at music conferences around the world including The Great Escape (UK), Bigsound (QLD), Going Global (NZ) and Guinness Amplify (KL).

Election Statement:

Over the past three years as Chair of the Music Producer and Engineers’ Guild of Australia, I have been proud to help shape a strong and unified voice for our community. Together, we have grown from a passionate idea into a recognised and respected organisation, representing the rights and needs of music producers, engineers and behind-the-scenes creatives. Our work has positioned MPEG as the key touchpoint for advocacy, industry connection, and professional development in Australia, while also building meaningful relationships with international organisations such as the UK’s MPG.

During my tenure, MPEG has celebrated landmark achievements including hosting our annual MPEG Awards, creating a nationally recognised platform to celebrate the talent of producers and engineers. We have launched industry forums and panels—such as our own Forum and AI ethics discussions at the APRA AMCOS BIGSOUND Breakfast—ensuring our members’ voices are heard in critical debates about the future of music. We have secured valuable partnerships, including with Music Australia and the Victorian Music Development Office, and successfully introduced membership fees to strengthen our sustainability. Each of these steps demonstrates our ability to grow, adapt and serve our members while staying true to our vision.

Looking ahead, I am committed to continuing this momentum by expanding opportunities for members, growing our advocacy work, and building a strong foundation for the next generation of music professionals. With the appointment of our Executive Director, Kurt Luthy, and a clear strategic plan in place, we are ready to move into our next phase of growth and impact. I would be honoured to continue my work for MPEG as a board member, ensuring that producers and engineers across Australia are represented, celebrated, and supported at every stage of their careers.

Election Statement:

I'm Lewis Mitchell, a Sydney-based producer and engineer who's been with MPEG from the start. Over the past decade, I've worked across major labels and independents, spending years at the intersection of creative and business. MPEG's inaugural survey revealed that half of our members are often working for free, almost half earn under $30,000 a year, and more than half feel they haven't been properly credited for their work. Meanwhile most are providing an average of six different services per project. On the ground these are the conversations I seem to land in daily.

My goal is to give members practical tools so they can protect themselves, charge appropriately, and build sustainable careers rather than just surviving project to project. I want to help navigate the business side of what we do and work toward funding to create opportunities for mentorship and development of our craft and foster community connection.

Election Statement:

I believe MPEG should be a strong voice for producers and engineers at all levels. Our industry has two main tiers: those working with major labels and global artists, and those focused on the independent sector. While there is crossover, I want to better understand the needs of both cohorts and ensure MPEG provides the right support for each.

I also want to see clearer differentiation between professionals and enthusiasts, more incentives for international artists to choose Australians, and stronger promotion of our talent to global markets.

For members, I will focus on building tangible benefits, from industry partnerships for gear and training to new opportunities for education, mentoring and collaboration. Most importantly, I am committed to listening, then taking action on the issues that matter most to members.

Election statement:
My vision for MPEG is clear: a strong, member-led guild that secures fair credit and fair pay, safer workplaces, and real career pathways for producers and engineers, whether they’re in major studios, bedrooms, classrooms or on the road. In the next term I want MPEG to double down on practical wins: standardised credit/metadata practices, clear rate guidance and contract tools, a safety and wellbeing framework for studios and sessions, and an export-ready pipeline that connects Australian talent to global opportunities.

As a current MPEG Board Director (since 2022), I’ve helped deliver outcomes that lift our community, including being part of the team that produced the MPEG Awards on 25 February 2025, where we introduced the new Overseas Recognition Award for producers and engineers living abroad. I bring deep partnerships across labels, publishers, studios, government and education, and I’m committed to using those relationships to amplify members’ voices and secure resources that matter.

I also bring a manager’s perspective, having represented emerging and established songwriter-producers, which gives me a ground-level understanding of the rights, acknowledgements, working conditions and day-to-day challenges our members face. If re-elected, I’ll focus on: (1) a practical “rates + contracts” toolkit; (2) national mentorship and apprenticeship pathways; (3) consistent crediting/metadata standards with industry adoption; and (4) working with the MPEG Board to ensure the financial sustainability of the Organisation and transparent and accurate reporting to the members to keep you apprised of our progress in real time. I’d be honoured to continue serving and delivering for MPEG’s community.

Election Statement:

As a seasoned veteran and professional in the music industry I am equal parts creator and technician. I have had some amazing teachers and mentors and worn many hats. I’ve been very fortunate. Through my journey I have developed strong views on the process of making recorded music. Some of these views are positive and some are critical. Australia is a unique music world. I think the industry here gets some things right ……and some things wrong. Our isolation and small population can be beneficial yet simultaneously detrimental. Half of my working career has been here and the other half in North America. My hope is that we can bridge that gap of distance and collaborate more with the entire international community. Facilitate relationships, methods and programs where the global knowledge pool is at our fingertips and being deployed here daily.

The music industry itself is in a period of massive flux and disruption. I still believe the principles are the same however we can be putting more per capita runs on the board creating more sustainability and better outcomes. Leading not following. I think there’s lots and lots of “very very good” work being created…………but I want it to be exceptional. This involves an honest and sometimes uncomfortable process of self-analysis and truly looking in the “audio mirror” so to speak. The reflection is more about philosophy than technicality. The whys more than the how’s.

I’d love to be involved in MPEG…. because I care and I think I bring a unique blend of “experience ingredients” to the table. I want only the best for the members and the wider music industry and community. If we keep doing the same things…. we’ll keep getting the same results………and I think we all want to soar as high as possible. Total supporter with some loving disruption.
